Building A Twitter For Your Business (Part 2)

twitter iconAs mentioned in the last blog post, Twitter has become an important platform for businesses to communicate with their audience and potential customers. If you are new to this post and haven’t read the last one, you can check it out here. Today we will finish this 2 part series with the type of tweets to post, a quick overview of analytics, and the best times to post.

1) Posts

Bill Gates once said “Content Is King” and this especially rings true for social media. The type of content you can include in your tweets are pictures, blog posts, and videos (YouTube & Vine), all of which will increase your engagement and impressions.

If you receive any mentions in reputable publications, this is great for building credibility among users! Don’t forget to include it. Your posts must be 140 characters or less, as Twitter will not allow you to have posts go out over this limit. If you are worried about your blog posts links going over the 140 character limit, you can use Bit.ly,  Hootsuite or any link shortening service.

2) Analytics

When it comes to determining the best times to tweet for driving engagement, Twitter Analytics will be your best friend. It has an easy-to-use dashboard with everything in one central location.

Twitter Analytics provides insightful information regarding your top tweets, number of followers acquired, mentions, and profile visits. Through Twitter Analytics, you can also export data from your tweets to an excel spreadsheet and use this data at the end of each month to get a break down of each tweet’s performance.

This information can be used to monitor whether or not you’re meeting your weekly/monthly KPI’s. It is also a good idea to track the number of followers you acquire on a weekly basis through a separate spreadsheet to see how quickly your Twitter handle is growing.

When analyzing your data, don’t forget to look at the date and times of the posts, as this information is very useful for scheduling future posts.

3) Timing of Posts

As mentioned before, analytics will provide you great historical data in determining the best times to post.

When you are sending out your first set of tweets, use these times as a guideline:

Monday – Thursday: 9am – 3pm

Fridays: Anytime before 3pm

Also consider the geographic location of your business. For instance, users who work in cities like NYC will be on their phones while taking public transportation; therefore, it is recommended to schedule tweets to go live around commuter times (Eg) NYC – 7:30 AM- 10:00 AM & 4:45 PM- 7:00 PM) in order to reach your audience.
